Mean Girls’ (2024) is an American musical teen comedy film directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. in their feature directorial debuts.” The screenplay by Tina Fey is based on the Broadway musical of the same name, which was inspired by Mark Waters’ 2004 comedy film and Rosalind Wiseman’s 2002 book ‘Queen Bees and Wannabes.’ Reneé Rapp reprises her role from the stage performance, along with Angourie Rice, Aulii Cravalho, and Christopher Briney. Notably, Fey and Tim Meadows reprise their original film roles, crafting a modern narrative centered on adolescent drama and social dynamics, offering a new spin on the legendary ‘Mean Girls’ saga.

Announced in January 2020, Paramount Pictures initiated the development of ‘Mean Girls’ (2024), with Tina Fey reprising her role as the screenwriter and producer alongside Lorne Michaels, the producer of the 2004 film. Composer Jeff Richmond and lyricist Nell Benjamin revisited and adapted their stage musical songs, with Richmond also creating the film’s score. Casting commenced in December 2022, leading to principal photography in New Jersey between March and April 2023. Originally slated for a premiere on Paramount+, the film’s positive test scores in September 2023 prompted a strategic shift, opting for a theatrical release before its streaming debut.
